Meetings of the ACTUP! BCN group

💡
This post in reverse chronological order will share discussions and decisions from meetings. Chatham House rules apply! That is, we will not list who said what, but just summarise discussion topics, and only include names where someone specifically chose to take on following up on action...

Discussions

General ideas about content:

  • Make it accessible: checklists, infographics, maps, etc
  • Audiences (different advice might be needed for each audience):
    • visitors/newly arrived;
    • with NIE & health card;
    • without NIE or without health card;
    • can pay private;
    • can have health insurance

Research for writing/preparing the following content

  • 5 things to know about getting tested in Barcelona (Cielo & Rodi)
  • Refugee/migrant health services: finding out trans healthcare, get list from Dia
  • How is sexual health funded in Barcelona? (Lauren & Mark)
  • How do you advocate for yourself? Self-advocacy kit (Aaron to adapt, infographic by Steven)
  • Dynamix how to access (Steven)
  • Waiting times as a map (Mark & Steven)

Future article ideas

  • How to get PrEP: start with collecting how people have done it
  • "if you want to get tested every 3 months because you are sexually active, how would you access that?"
  • What's stopping self-testing postal kits? How much does it cost? How much does it save?

February 2026

Discussion/agreements:

Three goals of website:

  • Primarily to support migrants in Barcelona to access sexual health, trans health and gender-affirming care
  • Then to share policy information like waiting list times and access to health resources
  • Finally to introduce readers to sexual health rights advocacy

From a digital rights perspective, it was also noted that we will need to be a little careful when sharing system workarounds and that in some cases it might be necessary to suggest direct messaging instead of sharing online

Initial content:

  • What are the origins of ACTUP and why we need it now
  • Summary of the PrEP waiting information from lgbt+tech
  • Map of waiting times for PrEP across Barcelona and testimonials of waiting times
  • Transhealth resources
